The Garrotxa’s Volcanic Zone is the best example of volcanic terrain on the Iberian Peninsula. It has 40 volcanic cones and more than 20 lava flows. The mountain landscape, the sun and climate provide a variety of vegetation, often exuberant, with holm oaks, common oaks and beech trees of exceptional value to the landscape.

Olot is the capital of la Garrotxa
Olot is the capital of la Garrotxa, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain.
The etymology of Olot is not clear and there are several hypotheses. According to the crònica Universal de Catalunya, Olot was founded by Ulo, former king of the dynasty of Atlanteasns, with the name of Olot. Another theory, more spread, is that the name comes from a wing. for this reason, the coat of Olot has a wing in reference to the name of the city.

Montsacopa volcano
Montsacopa Volcano (mount and glass, because of its shape) is a geological formation located in the city of Olot, ranked among the volcanoes Montolivet and Garrinada on the same fracture. Next to the crater is the hermitage of San Francisco, built during the seventeenth century, which makes also be known by the name of the volcano of Sant Francesc.
Santa Margarida volcano
The Santa Margarida volcano is one of the most important of the region, with 682 m of altitude and a large cone of 2000 m of perimeter. In the middle of the crater is situated the little church if Santa Margarida, from romanic origin
Croscat volcano

The Croscat is an ancient volcano from Santa Pau, in the northwest of the village. Is the highest one of the volcanic region of la Garrotxa, with 786 m of altitude and 800 m of diameter base. It has a form of a horseshoe.
The forest

The Fageda d’en Jordà, is one of the 25 nature preserves inside the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of la Garrotxa.
This forest is exceptional because grows at only 550 m of altitude, in a zone plain in the lateral of it strained of lava of the volcano of the Croscat, that extends for the towns of Santa Pau, Olot and Les Preses.
